From where?Bitter Orange progresses on two different axes: Thirty years ago, we discover a sexual assault that took place in a center in Amsterdam, where revolutionary militants from all over the world were trained, with the narrative of a man nicknamed El Turco, one of the witnesses of the incident. On the second axis, a father in today's Istanbul is discussing these events with his university-age daughter. Bitter Orange focuses on the questioning of masculine identity by emphasizing that even those who promise to change the world cannot keep their distance from masculine violence. The novel also traces the generation gap in the light of both technological developments and the view of politics and gender through the father-daughter relationship.While Yiğit Bener tells a very harsh story in an ironic style, he does not refrain from searching for truth and engaging in a difficult reckoning that comes with it.
